Devise a Different Point of View
This Ruby on Rails (RoR) app, created using Rails, was featured at two meetup events. This comprehensive tutorial was designed for novice and junior developers to customize a RoR app into a full-stack application. It begins with a basic application to show a list of presentations. Devise handled user management and security, and Bootstrap offered a visually appealing experience for end-users.
Tis the Season for React Testing
This React app, created using Yarn, was featured in a San Diego JavaScript Community guest speaker presentation, serving as an educational resource for developers of all levels to delve into testing React functional components. Leveraging React Testing Library, Jest, and JSDom for comprehensive testing, its testing suite evaluated static elements, text content, animations, and navigation fluidity.
Fun Way to Rest
An HTML, JavaScript, and CSS game used to facilitate cohort learning about RESTful routes, including HTTP verb and CRUD actions. This interactive game provided an engaging experience to learn these essential concepts in web development.
Foxtrot Grad Game
A Ruby text-based game, enriched with ASCII art and text files, was crafted to celebrate our cohort's graduation and showcase their talents as a culmination of our bootcamp journey.
Cat Tinder
Group project. Decoupled application offering a family-friendly take on the popular dating app. React frontend manages the user interface, aided by React Router for navigation and useState for state management. HTTP requests were handled using Fetch, while styling was achieved through CSS/SCSS, reactstrap, and Bootstrap. The Rails back end provided API endpoints, backed by PostgreSQL for storing cat profiles. (No repo provided - Waiting on approval to share the group's code.)
Mental Health Mondays
Inspired by my successes through reframing my thoughts and decluttering the factors that either supported or hindered my growth, I spearheaded a weekly mental health awareness program. Through interactive workshops, peer support, wellness tips, and mind-body balance sessions, it aims to enhance students' well-being. No video included for privacy of participants.
My fascination with technology started on the porch of a quaint shack in Mississippi with a butter knife and a radio. This curiosity propelled me into a diverse career journey, encompassing roles such as a US Navy Nuclear Machinist's Mate, a Patient Access Representative, a Respiratory Therapist, a Life Coach, and now, a Web Development Instructor.
My driving force has always been the question of "How," and I remain steadfast in my commitment to leave a positive impact wherever I go. Armed with coding bootcamp training, active involvement in the developer community, and a wealth of over two years of collaborative web development experience, I bring both technical proficiency in Ruby and JavaScript and a diverse array of insights to the table.
